History of Chapel: The Chapel itself was opened in 1877 and replaced a building which still exists further down the hill. The Sunday School had been founded in 1833 and an old chapel building existed some 300 yards from the existing site.
Horton-Heath was in the very early years,
probably in the 18th Century, part of the Poole Primitive Methodist Circuit..
It was administered by the 2nd Minister from Blandford who periodically made the
journey on foot, staying at one of the member's houses for as long as a week
preaching and visiting.
There is a recollection that many years ago there were two chapels in existence; one devoted to total abstinence and a break-away from the other. Horton Heath is the only chapel in the Circuit that does not come under the jurisdiction of the Connexional Chapel Committee. When the Committee inspected the building during erection, they objected to certain work being carried out and requested its alteration. The Trustees refused and the Committee consequently refused them a grant. The Trustees have therefore always refused to hand over the deeds and all matters are dealt with by local Trustees.
The Chapel has been the centre of village life and it was here that many matters relating to the parish were discussed at the close of service. There is here a stable society with a body of faithful and devoted members. However they are always welcoming to new members and visitors and is probably one of the friendliest places of worship in the area.
A school room was added to the site in 1977 with a kitchen. This room is also used for church social events including drama productions. It is available for hire by contacting the Church Stewards, below The capacity of the hall is approx. 60 persons seated.
