West moors parish council

West Moors has had a Parish Council for 50 years. It has 15 Councillors and a Parish Clerk. There is a Parish Office in the Library Car Park (Station Road) which opens on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, 10.00AM to 1.00PM (except Bank Holidays). Saturday mornings from 1000am to 12.00pm

Administration of the Fryers Field recreation area which includes the Sports Pavilion; All-weather Court; Cricket and Football pitches; Skatepark facility and the Children's Play area.
Provision of road furniture and some road signs: This includes roadside benches; some bus shelters and entry signs into the village.
Administration of the Petwyn verge, recently purchased by the Parish Council.
Review of all Planning applications and submitting recommendations to the East Dorset District Council who make final Planning decisions.
Provision of small grants for village improvements through applications by village groups.
Administration of the West Moors Cemetery.
Supervision of rights of way and footpaths in association with the Dorset County Council.
Council Tax
The Council receives its funding, known as the Precept, from East Dorset District Council. For 2008/09, the Precept is fixed at £87,920.00 It also has benefited from the Daphne Harrison Bequest since 1994 which is now 90% utilised through substantial grants, including the Library extension to provide public computer facilities.
Parish Precepts
Within each valuation band, the tax required by Dorset County Council, the Dorset Police Authority, the Dorset Fire Authority and East Dorset District Council remains constant throughout the district. However, tax levels differ between parishes because some town and parish councils make additional charges for parish purposes.
