West moors youth activities

West Moors has a number of youth activities, particularly for children up to 15 years of age.   One disadvantage is the lack of a senior school in the village.   After attending the West Moors Middle School, pupils need to transfer to senior schools in Ferndown or Wimborne or further afield.   However, there are a number of leisure  facilities available in West Moors which are proving attractive to West Moors younger citizens.

• For the youngest there are two play areas with swings, slides and climbing frames in the the Fryer's Field and also adjacent to the Oakhurst First School, Shaftesbury Road.   These facilities can be used by children up to age 11.   They are maintained by the Parish Council to full safety standards.   The Fryers field facilities are open in daylight hours and can be accessed via a path opposite St Mary's Church on Station Road.   The Shaftesbury facility is open after school hours until dusk.  On weekends and Bank Holidays it is open most daylight hours after 10.00AM.

• For boys and girls there are junior football clubs and use of the Fryers Field pitches for casual play and practice.   For more information, click here .  In the evenings practice is also arranged on the all-weather courts, also in Fryers field.   This includes six-a-side games.

• For boys an girls from 3 upwards there are dance classes at Oakhurst School

• For girls there are local Netball clubs which also use the all-weather courts.

• There is a Skatepark for all ages with an adjacent BMX dirt track

• There is a youth activity club in the West Moors Youth Centre. 

• For 5 to 15 olds there is a Karate training programe

• All children are eligible to join either the Scouts or Guides and their associated groups such as Cubs, Rainbows and Brownies.   Guides and Rangers.  Scouts .
