Council Tax 2011/2012

The Council’s spending requirement for 2011/2012 is £101,435. This represents a basic Council Tax charge for a Band D property of £30.79 for the year. This is a £1.91 increase from last years figure (£28.88).

The size of the increase reflects the growing need to set up contingency funds for Parish amenity improvements, for example: the Petwyn village green, children’s play areas, the cemetery and Fryer Field. It also incorporates the loan repayments for the purchase of the Parish office in Park Way.

The Parish Council is also responsible for the Pavilion, Multi Use Games area (located next to Fryer Field), public seating and certain bus shelters. We also provide the decorative Christmas lighting and have plans for their improvement. Through grants and donations we also support local voluntary and charitable organisations.

Parish Precepts

Within each valuation band, the tax required by Dorset County Council, the Dorset Police Authority, the Dorset Fire Authority and East Dorset District Council remains constant throughout the district. However, tax levels differ between parishes because some town and parish councils make additional charges for parish purposes. The list below gives a breakdown of the calculation in West Moors Parish in respect of a property allocated to Valuation band D for the year 2011/12.

Dorset County Council: £1,168.29
East Dorset District Council: £190.93
Dorset Police Authority: £180.00
Dorset Fire Authority:  £60.39
Parish Charge: £30.79
